Our mission is to help build mutually supportive resilient communities that are self reliant in terms of energy, food and other resources, allowing us to minimize the impact from the challenges of climate change, the end of cheap oil, and an uncertain economy. We seek to accomplish this by promoting local production, distribution, and consumption of energy, food, and other resources, while connecting with local organizations as well as other transition communities at regional, national, and international levels.
We believe that we have to act together and we have to act now by tapping the collective genius of our community to construct ways of living that are enriching, supportive of one another, and that fit within the limits of our planet.
Transition Durham seeks to:
- serve as a conduit of information to increase awareness in the community of the existing challenges and potential solutions
- support existing efforts in transition-related areas (e.g., energy efficiency and renewable energy, sustainable food production, alternative transportation, etc)
- connect people and groups to foster cross-fertilization of ideas, develop creative solutions, and initiate new actions.
